Marriage Magic-Maker

Technically, Chelsea Tyszko is Turning Stone Resort Casino’s senior sales manager for weddings and social events, which means she is tasked with making sure property parties are perfect for everyone involved.

Behind the scenes, we call her the hostess with the mostest.

In just about four years with the Oneida Indian Nation, Chelsea estimates she has produced about 300 weddings, or basically 75 a year. She’s in the business of making people happy, and because facilities and services at Turning Stone are so great, she’s been able to start off many new marriages on the right foot.

“There’s nothing like working with a couple and seeing them so happy with the way everything turns out,” said Chelsea, who grew up in Syracuse. “That’s definitely the most rewarding part of this job.”

Chelsea has always been the life of the party—literally. She spent her first two years at Turning Stone as services manager serving small- and mid-sized conferences and events. After two years in that job, she switched over to weddings.

Before her time here, Chelsea worked at the Sky Armory in Syracuse, where she also coordinated events (and got married herself). She has worked as an event planner at other venues in the area, too.

The way she sees it, the hardest part of her job is staying organized. To do this, Chelsea said she has become queen of the calendar notifications, which she has set to go off for different reasons, multiple times a day.

“I have lists and lists of lists,” she joked. “If it’s not written down somewhere, it won’t happen.”

When Chelsea isn’t planning or running weddings, she likely is home with her partner, working on their garden. She also is expecting the couple’s first child, a son, later this year.

Looking back on her time with Turning Stone, Chelsea said she’s thankful for the trust the Oneida Indian Nation has placed in her to run events the way she feels they should be run, and the opportunities she has been given to grow.

“I don’t know of many companies that give their people the freedom to move around and step into roles the way Oneida Nation Enterprises does,” she said. “This job is all about customer service and about giving our guests the best experience of their entire lives. I’m not sure I would have been able to do that if it wasn’t for the Oneida Indian Nation’s support.”
